Red Wattlebirds - Nest Building at John Forrest National Park

A nest, about 3m off the ground in a small tree adjacent to the carpark and picnic area. The Wattlebirds were flying into this tree regularly.

I couldn't immediately see what they were doing, and it appeared they might be building this nest.

However, I then realised the bird that was regularly approaching the tree from the same direction was not carrying anything when it arrived. I wondered if they were taking this nest apart...

Collection of twigs was also occurring on the ground and amongst some of the low shrubs.

And then I realised they were building the nest visible in the foliage at bottom left. This was 9-10m high in a large eucalypt, and seemed like a much more sensible place for a nest. And the old nest? No idea which bird built it, but it was a good source of nest-sized twigs for the new one.
